Biological fluid dynamics research at Caltech addresses the science and engineering of internal and external fluid flows spanning the full range of spatial and temporal scales exhibited by biological and bio-inspired systems. Theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches are integrated to solve outstanding problems in basic science as well as clinical and industrial applications.

Faculty associated with biological fluid dynamics research are housed within the Division of Engineering and Applied Science, the Division of Biology, and the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences.

Program activities in biological fluid dynamics are administered in conjunction with the interdisciplinary Center for Integrative and Multiscale Modeling and Simulation at Caltech.
